If the majority of your work will come from competitive
bidding (as opposed to jobs which are just given
to you, which happens few and far between) then you
need a one-stop place where you can look at mountains
of blueprints for several different jobs (instead
of running all over Southern California to general
contractors offices to look at blueprints).
You may have heard of the
Dodge Report
The Dodge Report is basically
a listing of projects available to bid on.
You purchase a membership to the Dodge Report for
print and/or electronic delivery. The Dodge Report
will give you the information you need to prepare
a bid
or enter negotiations.
The detailed project information included in the
Dodge Report will also enable you to sell products
or services in your highly specialized niche. All
construction stages from pre-planning to the start
of the project are covered.
Just about any customization of your Dodge Report
by geography, project type, valuation, or stages
of construction that meet your needs is available.
Print Dodge Reports
Print Dodge Reports give you
the flexibility to order any combination of counties
you wish. State,
regional, national and Canadian coverage is also
available.
Through the same organization that offers the Dodge Report you can find plan rooms available.
Purchasing an FW Dodge or other plan room membership
Purchasing
a membership at an FW Dodge plan room or any
other plan room gives you access to the plans
and
blueprints that are on display for various
construction projects.
All you have to do is approach the plan room by calling, visiting in person or visiting their website if they have one, and sign up for membership.
Most if not all of the plan rooms have a membership fee, usually different fees for each plan room. In addition, some plan rooms will have a greater selection of plans and projects to bid on. The Dodge Report comes from F.W. Dodge and is one of the largest organizations available.
Information available through the plan rooms
These construction plan rooms not only have
the blueprints and specs for projects up for bid, they also usually have
a list of which
general
contractors are bidding the construction project
(so that you don't have to do the legwork to
find
out
who
to submit
your bid to).
Most, if not all, of these plan rooms usually
also mail and/or email to you
a weekly, or even daily, list of all the construction projects that are
out to bid, as well as results on past construction
job bids.
There
are several organizations that offer plan rooms,
not just the organization that offers the Dodge Report.
