about the California 20-Day Preliminary Notice Forms
The
California 20-Day Preliminary Notice form is a VITAL part of your construction
business, whether you're a contractor or a supplier or a service
provider. Usually,
if you don't do the preliminary notice (and get it delivered within
20 days of starting the job, or supplying material to it), then you'll
lose lien rights for that time.
The
20 days means that your lien rights are protected from 20 days back
from the date you send the form.
What
this means is if you started the job 25 days ago and you're just now
doing your preliminary notice then you don't have lien rights for at
least the first 5 days you were on the job.
But
that doesn't mean you don't do the notice, by all means still do the
notice because it protects your lien rights for 20 days back through
the end of the job. If you don't do it at all then you won't have any
rights, plus if you're a contractor you can actually be punished by
the state license board for not doing the notice!
It
can be very confusing but I've included an in-depth article that'll
tell you everything there is to know about preliminary notices, from
how to fill it out to how to track the return mailing receipts. You'll
be doing preliminary notices like a PRO in no time!
We
are available via
email (why
no phone) should
