Here in the state
of California, every licensed contractor must include his license
number in:
- All construction contracts
- All Subcontracts
- All calls for bids
- All forms of advertising, as prescribed by the registrar
of
contractors, that the contractor utilizes
The first three are pretty self-explanatory, but the fourth
item could cause you grief, if you're not careful. Not only
does it apply to standard advertising avenues (newspaper ads;
etc.), it also applies to your office stationery (ie: business
cards, letterhead, fax cover sheets, advertisement fliers,
etc.).
If you put advertising magnets on your car (or paint your
advertisement on your truck, etc.) you must include your contractor's
license number. If you put a sign outside your office, with
your company name on it, you must include your contractor's
license number.
Sponsor a Little League team or Pop Warner or ... ? Don't
forget to include your license number with any "publicity"
you get.
Now, while some of this may (or may not) be going overboard
a bit, it's still better to put your license number on something
that doesn't have to have it, rather than not putting your
license number on something that does have to have it!
