Now that you've decided which license you want, it's time to pick your contractor school. I strongly recommend that you check out several different schools before you decide on which one you want to attend.

Some schools teach with audio tape only, other schools teach with written text only, and other schools do a combination of both. Now there are contractor schools online!

Combining the audio tapes with the written text and/or internet class can be very convenient due to the fact that you can study the text/internet at home and listen to the audio tapes in your vehicle.

Some contractor schools offer special package deals in which they might offer bonus classes such as: estimating, accounting, blueprint reading, etc. These can be very valuable classes to help you manage your business.

Most of these license schools offer a guarantee that if you do not pass your license exam you can continue on in the school for no charge until you do pass your exam. The kicker here is that every time you take the license exam you are charged a fee by the state.

Remember that it is very important to STUDY STUDY STUDY however, don't take your written text to work to study at lunch time. While they won't admit it, most bosses will frown if they find out that you are attempting to obtain your own license.

They don't want the competition and they may just lay you off before you are ready to quit! (Those paychecks come in real handy while you are studying and starting out though so mum's the word!).

Keep in mind that as long as you are not attempting to steal his customers while on his jobs and as long as you are not studying while on his time, you aren't doing anything wrong.

When it comes time for you to apply for your test date for your state license test, your school will take you through the process.
